Sky Studios is the home of Sky Original Drama and Comedy. Our goal is to bring unmissable Sky Originals to Sky’s customers across Europe.
Across Sky Studios we commission scripted projects directly from independent production companies and work directly with talent to develop and produce projects in-house. We are also home to an in-house factual development and production team.
This agile approach, backed with world-class commercial, marketing and international distribution capability, means that we are able to bring projects to screen globally, with speed and scale.

Sky Original Drama and Comedy
Sky Studios is responsible for developing, commissioning and producing all Sky Original Drama and Comedy for Sky’s customers across Europe.
This includes Emmy-nominated hit, Gangs of London, BAFTA-winning comedy, Brassic, Mary & George, starring Julianne Moore, The Day of the Jackal, with Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, M. Son of the Century, directed by Joe Wright and Small Town, Big Story, created by Chris O’Dowd.
We focus on Sky’s two core markets of the UK & Ireland and Italy, with specific commissioning and editorial briefs for each.
We primarily commission projects directly from indies, however we can also work directly with talent to nurture, develop and produce projects in-house. These include shows such as critically acclaimed limited series The Rising, Christmas Carole starring Suranne Jones, Mr. Bigstuffwith Danny Dyer and returning series Blocco 181.
Sky Studios Factual
Sky Studios Factual develop and produce unscripted projects in-house. These Sky Original documentaries have scale, are grounded in Europe – either through the narrative or through the talent attached – and have the ambition to drive conversation. We also co-produce and develop with a range of partners including Dorothy St. Pictures and Tortoise Media.
Sky Studios Factual do not commission directly from independent production companies, however Sky has a separate documentary and factual commissioning team for the UK

We have a world-class team of Commissioning Editors who commission projects directly from the independent production community, as well as a team of highly experienced and well-respected Development Executives and Executive Producers who oversee projects through advanced development, production and post.

Commercial Partnerships
Sky Studios is unique in that it houses the ability to commission original drama and comedy and deficit fund projects for international distribution under one roof.
We have a highly flexible approach to deal-making, which spans from taking single-market rights through to world-wide distribution. We are also highly skilled in striking uplifting and hard-working co-production partnerships.
This agile approach, backed with world-class commercial, marketing and distribution capability via our sister-company NBCUniversal, allows us to bring projects to screen with speed and scale, around the world.
Production Companies
Sky Studios invests in the cultural economy and global production sector with equity stakes in several production companies in the UK and the US, including Great British Bake-Off creator Love Productions, and the premier reality crime producer in the US, Jupiter Entertainment, creator of long-running hit Snapped.
Sky Studios has also invested in high quality factual specialists Blast! Films, True North Productions, and Transistor Films; natural history producer True to Nature; drama producers The Lighthouse and Longboat Pictures; and growth businesses Sugar Films, Chrysalis Vision, and Talos Films (US).
