2014 Seeing the bigger picture reporting launched

Today we’ve released our 2014 Seeing the bigger picture reporting. On our new company website, under Bigger Picture, there’s a comprehensive review of our initiatives and performance in building a better, more sustainable business. The ‘Sustainability reporting’ section delves deeper into our approach and our progress against our sustainability measures in the 2013/14 financial year.

Our vision is to build a better business that is durable for the long term, delivering for our 11.5 million customers, our 25,000 employees and the wider community to create a more valuable business and sustain success into the future.

Our key highlight this year is the launch of Sky Academy. We believe that building skills and nurturing talent is essential to the future of Sky and is equally vital for society as a whole. In the first year, 105,000 young people participated and by 2020, we’re aiming to help one million young people gain skills and self-belief through Sky Academy.

At Sky we also know that the way we do business is just as important as what we do. In 2013/14 we continued our focus on living up to our responsible business commitments day to day. Our progress includes achieving 40% reduction in carbon intensity against our 2008/09 baseline; recycling 100% of the products that are returned to us; launching Sky Broadband Shield to help enable our customers enjoy the internet safely; and assessing 100% of our strategic suppliers through our responsible sourcing questionnaire and expanding the scope of our approach going forward.

This year we have provided a GRI Index for our reporting using the GRI G4 framework for the first time. We have also produced a 2014 Seeing the bigger picture Summary Report, which provides an overview of our approach and performance in 2013/14.

Chief Executive Jeremy Darroch said: ‘We never forget that our business is built on long-term relationships. I would like to thank everyone who has supported the work we have done this year to grow our contribution. By creating more reasons for all of our stakeholders to feel positively towards Sky, we are building a better, more durable business.’
