A new look for Sky News

After more than a year's design and development, our redesigned Sky News website is now up and running.

It’s a big moment. With the new look, we’re offering users a much sharper picture of the day's top stories, and allowing them to dive into rich detail and instant analysis as breaking news unfolds.

And thanks to a completely new publishing system, Sky News editors now have unprecedented flexibility to produce some of the web’s best news story experiences; where any type of content can take the lead, and where we can offer a full range of background information, all on the same page.

Redesigning well-known websites is not something to approach lightly. Millions of people use skynews.com every week, and are used to its layout, its style, and its idiosyncrasies. When we went back to the drawing board, it was clear that people wanted not only to share more of our content, but also that, amid the noise of tweets and links, they wanted a clearer view of the day's main developments, with the most relevant comment and analysis from our correspondents and specialists.

So we are pleased that users have so far reacted positively to the new site - welcoming a more visual approach to the day's news, where it is easier to find and share the stories they are interested in, and where the most important video, images and data are given the prominence they expect.

As well as producing a visual impact, the new design marks a big step in allowing us to create and share content across all of our digital platforms, from iPhone & iPad to big screens in major railway stations up and down the country.

We will be able not only to publish to all devices, but to do so with remarkable simplicity, in a way that allows us to subtly adapt our storytelling for each platform.

Development of the site does not stop at launch of course, and as we roll out new functionality in the coming weeks, we will react to users' feedback. What is clear is that we will continue to focus on delivering a world-class news experience to all our users, wherever they are.
