A responsible sourcing journey, as told by a t-shirt…

Each year, thousands of young people take part in our Sky Sports Living for Sport projects in secondary schools, with each one receiving a t-shirt to wear during the day - that’s a lot of people and a lot of t-shirts! As part of our Believe in Better ethos and seeing the bigger picture strategy, our teams work hard to make our products better and more sustainable, including those products we use within our own operations - such as the t-shirts.

When we recently sourced t-shirts for this years participants, we set out to find a supplier with a traceable supply chain who shared our values and high standards on responsible sourcing.

Let me take you on the journey of our t-shirts sourced from our supplier Rapanui ...

  • Stop 1: Farm in Gujarat (Northern India) – in the 120-acre farm, the cotton is certified organic, which is safer for the workers and the environment. Keeping to traditions, camels and carts transport the cotton to the ginning factory...
  • Stop 2: Ginning Factory in Gujarat – here the organic cotton is separated from the seeds, and the workers are looked after through the Fair Wear Foundation. The cotton then heads south by road...
  • Stop 3: Cutting and Sewing Factory in Tamil Nadu (Southern India) – the jersey is spun and the fabric takes the shape of our t-shirts. The factory is powered by giant wind turbines and is also ethically credited...
  • Stop 4: From Tamil Nadu to Southampton by boat – the t-shirts travel up the Red Sea and through the Gibraltar straights...
  • Stop 5: They arrive! The t-shirts are then delivered to us here at Sky and are ready to go to their new home with our Sky Sports Living For Sport participants.

And there you have it, the journey of our t-shirts, all the way from Gujurat onto the backs of our Sky Sports Living for Sport participants.
