Brook returns home for welterweight title fight on Sky Sports Box Office

Sky Sports Box Office will show Kell Brook’s IBF World Welterweight title defence against rising US star Errol Spence exclusively live on 27 May.

Fighting at a boisterous Bramall Lane in his native city of Sheffield, ‘The Special One’ will be making his first appearance since his fifth round loss - and only professional defeat to date - to Gennady Golovkin in September.

Brook, 30, first claimed the IBF World Welterweight belt in 2014 with a narrow win over fancied American Shawn Porter. The Sheffield star has impressively defended his title against Jo Jo Dan, Frankie Gavin and Kevin Bizier, but is set to be pushed all the way by ‘The Truth’ in late May.

Undefeated challenger Spence became the mandatory challenger for Brook’s belt when he defeated Leonard Bundu in August. The Texas-based New Yorker is undefeated after 21 fights, 18 of which have come by virtue of knockout.

Sky Sports Head of Boxing Adam Smith said: Kell Brook steps straight back into the fire after his brave and sole defeat to middleweight great Gennady Golovkin. This is a brilliant match-up against his mandatory welterweight challenger which is fraught with danger. Some believe Errol Spence is the next pound-for-pound star, but Brook will be aiming to cement his position as welterweight king on a special spring night at Bramall Lane.’

The fight between ‘The Special One’ and ‘The Truth’ adds to a stellar list of fights in 2017 on Sky Sports, which includes Anthony Joshua’s world heavyweight unification title fight against Wladimir Klitschko on 29 April.
