Counting down to the biggest ever season of football on Sky Sports

There are now just two days until we kick-off our biggest ever season of live Barclays Premier League football. We’ve got 116 live Premier League matches – more than we’ve ever had before – plus football from the Sky Bet Football League, UEFA Champions League, Capital One Cup, SPFL, international fixtures and much more.

So what's new this season?

For starters, we have a brand new weekend of football with a new look Saturday schedule. FL72 has already been on our screens and there are other new shows including Sky Sports Game Changers and Saturday Night Football. Game Changers, presented by Darren Campbell and Di Dougherty, is the first show of its kind and aims to get more children involved in sport. It’s a brilliant addition to the Sky Sports schedule – I know my own kids will love it. Plus, Jamie Carragher joins us from the Liverpool dressing room and he’ll be alongside Gary Neville and Ed Chamberlin in the MNF studio on Monday nights.

Viewers can look forward to the best matches, at the best times, with the best analysis. Our opening set of live Premier League fixtures alone will see Sky Sports cover every team at least twice, the head-to-heads between last season’s top four, all the three promoted teams by the end of August and nine derbies including Manchester, North London, Tyne-Wear and south Wales.

And, of course, we begin this weekend with the three big managerial stories of the summer.

On Saturday Night Football, champions Manchester United travel to Swansea for David Moyes’ (above) first league game as manager. It’s a fantastic opening to our live coverage, and a match that every home in Britain can enjoy as part of our free day of Sky Sports, where Sky Sports 1 will replace regular programming on Sky 2 and Pick TV for one day only.

As the weekend continues we’ll have Crystal Palace v Tottenham Hotspur in our first Super Sunday of the season, followed by the second coming of Jose Mourinho with Chelsea v Hull City. Meanwhile, Jamie and Gary’s first MNF will capture the third big story of the summer – Manuel Pellegrini’s Premier League debut managing Manchester City against Newcastle United.

And it's not all just about football, either.

We’ve just witnessed the England cricket team retain the Ashes, and this summer we had the British & Irish Lions plus some great F1® Grand Prix™. Looking ahead, our fantastic Ashes coverage continues, plus we’ll have every F1® race, Welsh Open golf, ATP and US Open tennis plus so much more. This weekend’s action is a case in point: as well as live football, we’ll be showing Solheim Cup golf, the Twenty20 Cup finals, southern hemisphere Rugby Championship and ATP tennis.

As the new Barclays Premier League season approaches, we’ll also be hearing from head of football Gary Hughes tomorrow, who will be looking ahead to Sky Sports’ new weekend schedule.
