Emmy® winning drama Friday Night Lights comes to Sky Atlantic HD

Sky Atlantic HD offers viewers the chance to see one of America’s finest dramas from the beginning as FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS joins the channel line-up from the end of February.   Sky Atlantic has licensed all UK TV rights to the first two series of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS from NBCUniversal International Television Distribution.

Praised by critics and acknowledged at the Emmys®, the sports drama was described as “staggeringly wonderful” by EW and has provided its fans with five seasons of first class storytelling since its launch in 2006.

Charting the highs and lows of Dillon, Texas and its fictional high school football team, The Dillon Panthers, the show stars Kyle Chandler (Super 8) as the Panthers’ football coach, Eric Taylor and Connie Britton (American Horror Story) as his wife, Tami. Both the recipients of numerous Primetime Emmy Award® nominations during the show’s run, Chandler finally won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the 2011 awards – the same year the show itself won for Outstanding Writing.

Based on the 1990 best-selling book by H.G. Bissinger, the show has earned critical praise for its warts-and-all portrayal of a middle class American town where football reigns supreme, sometimes at the expense of logic. Beginning with Coach Taylor’s unenviable mission to get the Panthers to the state championships, and the tragedy that threatens to derail this venture, Series 1 sets the bar for five seasons of unflinching and absorbing entertainment.

An exceptional addition to the Sky Atlantic schedule, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS joins a heavy-weight line-up of programming that includes HBOs Game Of Thrones (new season 2), CBS Studios International’s Nurse Jackie (new season 4), NBCUniversal International Television Distribution’s Smash and Lionsgate’s Mad Men (new season 5).
