How Sky Movies is helping to build a successful movies industry

At Sky Movies, we’re always aiming to secure the very best movies for our customers, as well as to provide them with the flexibility and control to watch on their terms. Over the last 20 years, we’ve built Sky Movies into the UK’s leading movies subscription service, with hundreds of movies available live every week in HD and 3D, as well as a vast library of movies available on demand.
Naturally, there’s a strong commercial rationale for us to keep investing in, and improving, our movies service. By satisfying existing customers and appealing to more people, we grow our business. But our platform can also allow content-owners to reach wider audiences and, in turn, help to build a more vibrant and successful movies industry.
Over the years, we’ve built strong, long-term relationships with all six major studios and dozens more independents. Today, we’ve announced a new multi-year agreement with Entertainment Film Distribution (EFD) to offer our customers exclusive access to their movies – including the Academy Award-winning Silver Linings Playbook.
This new deal means that our customers can continue to look forward to even more films wherever they are: at home via their Sky+HD set-top box or on the move via their tablet or laptop through Sky Go. And customers choosing our new internet TV service, NOW TV, will of course also benefit from this and the other studio deals we have in place, as will those that choose to rent movies on a one-off, subscription-free basis via Sky Store.
All of these new methods of distribution are just one way that our relationships with the studios have become deeper and more collaborative. We’ve also broken new ground with brand new channels such as Sky Movies Disney - the first time that Disney has been involved in a co-branded channel anywhere in the world. And we’ve packaged all 22 Bond movies in HD, on demand and on the move within a brand new channel – Sky Movies 007.
Whether it’s through our market-leading satellite platform, new technology that allows people to enjoy the latest movies on their terms or imaginative ways to package and market movies, there are many ways that we can make movies even better for our customers – and we’re going to carry on looking for even more in the future.
