Internet Matters
Internet Matters
Child safety online matters to our customers and our people. That’s why
Sky’s joined forces with the other major broadband providers in the UK to launch www.internetmatters.org.uk.
It’s an online portal dedicated to providing information, advice and support for every parent in Britain
when it comes to internet safety for children.
In the process of developing Internet
Matters, Sky, alongside the other three biggest internet service providers, listened carefully to what
parents felt they needed. Whilst the internet is a tremendous tool for children the research
revealed that parents wanted to know more about how they can help their children navigate it safely. Parents
said they were unsure about where to go for good advice and wanted a reliable online resource to guide them.
Internet Matters responds to what parents want and we’re excited to be part of it, with Sky committing to
invest £8.1 million over the next three years.
Supporting Internet Matters is just
one of the ways we’re addressing child safety at Sky. We’ve already invested in introducing Sky Broadband
Shield, a whole home parental control which allows parents to make a simple choice about what content they
want their children to be able to access in their home, across all devices connected to the internet. Watch
our promo featuring Samuel L Jackson to find out how to get Sky Broadband Shield.
As well as giving parents the tools and information to keep their children safe online, we’re helping
young people explore the issues themselves at Sky
Academy Skills Studios. This unique learning experience helps young people create a TV news report
on subjects they’re studying at school and cyberbullying is our most popular topic.
To
help even more young people learn about staying safe online, we’re working with Childnet to deliver
workshops in schools about online safety, reaching hundreds more young people and their teachers in the
coming academic year.
By enabling customers to decide how much of the internet get
through to their home, as well as giving young people the opportunity to learn about the issues, we’re
helping young people stay safe online. Find out more about Internet Matters here.
