July's top 10 Sky entertainment shows

Hi. As Boo Radley said, 'Summer’s gone'. But as Hanson replied, 'Hmmmm bop'.  For every yin there’s a yang.

Edinburgh TV Festival is over, thankfully, and we are all still wondering how tall the organiser, Karl Warner, really is.

In keeping with our very exciting monthly updates on the top 10 entertainment shows on Sky (which I write, thank you), I wanted to share some of the highlights for our highest rating programmes in July.

We were thrilled nay ecstatic to see the opening episodes of our new US drama series Ray Donovan launch strongly, with ep 2 attracting 620,000 viewers. Starring Hollywood heavyweights Jon Voight and Liv Schreiber, the show’s been a huge hit overseas and we’re really pleased to see our customers here enjoying it as part of the awesome line-up on Sky Atlantic.

What’s interesting about the Ray Donovan ratings is yet again the popularity of on-demand and mobile viewing. This means that nearly a fifth of viewers caught up on the show using our on-demand services and this was boosted by a further 74,000 tuning in with mobile devices on Sky Go. Again, broken record I guess, but this really affirms why we’re all about offering our customers as much flexibility as possible for them to watch when and how they want through simple, easy to use technology. It’s great for us and producers as programmes can be enjoyed more widely, and it’s great for our customers as they can take control of their remotes in line with their busy schedules, both when they’re at home, out and about and when bored in serious high-powered meetings.

Next up is Revolution. It got the highest audience in July with a total audience of 1.43m viewers for its 19th episode (it was number 3 in May and 2 in June, fascinating to know if you’re that way inclined). The series has really built momentum as it’s gone along. My kids love it.

In terms of our own home-grown shows, we’re very happy to see the series premieres of both The Café and Starlings make it into the top 10 this month. Seeing our UK shows in the top ten really validates what we set out to achieve in creating bright, warm comedies that our customers love, while at the same time supporting the UK’s creative industries.

I’ll be back in touch next month with the latest round of viewing figures. Looking forward to sharing our highlights again then. Take care.
