Live Q&A with Sky News correspondent and the British Antarctic Survey

At Sky, we believe that climate change is one of the world’s biggest challenges. As well as helping to tackle this issue by reducing our environmental impact across all of our own operations, we are also inspiring our 10.7 million customers to take action and reduce their impact on the planet. Recently we had a great new opportunity to inform, educate and inspire our audience on the subject of climate change by sending our cameras to Antarctica.
Sky News Middle East correspondent Tom Rayner and cameraman Chris Pearson made the journey south as part of polar explorer Robert Swan’s tenth International Antarctic Expedition.
The trip was also joined by a select group of 80 young people from 28 different countries with the aim of impressing upon them the importance of maintaining the current international legal frameworks that protects the frozen continent from mining and drilling for energy resources.
Crucially, Tom reported back throughout the trip via a live blog on the Sky News website, which featured interviews with polar experts, background analysis of the major climate change issues and updates on how the expedition members were reacting to the Antarctic environment.
And people following the trip were encouraged to comment on the videos, tweet about it and engage in the debate.
After the success of this trip we’re now taking part in a live and interactive webinar so we can share how we covered this story live from Antarctic. This will be held on the 2degrees Network platform on Thursday 20th June at 11:00 (BST). We’ll be delving into Tom’s experiences and finding out how he used the trip as the ultimate sustainability engagement vehicle. He will be joined by climate science expert Dr Emily Shuckburgh of the British Antarctic Survey and Fiona Ball, Sky’s Head of Environment and Engagement and Sky Rainforest Rescue.
Tune in to gain insight into:
- How Sky is communicating about climate change and science in new and interesting ways;
- How technology can be used to raise awareness of climate change, enabling people to engage in the debate;
- Why what is happening in Antarctica matters to the nations of the world; and
- What Sky has learned about how to inspire people to take action on climate change through its Sky Rainforest Rescue initiative.
