Michelle Yeoh, Benedict Cumberbatch, Céline Dion and Aaron Taylor‑Johnson Headline Bold Sky Original Film Slate

Sky’s star-studded Original Film slate brings together Oscar winners and global music icons as it acquires four new films: Blood on Snow, The Surgeon, High In The Clouds and Empire City. Spanning high-octane action, gripping crime thrillers and ambitious animated storytelling, the films boast world-class talent including Gerard Butler, Paul McCartney, Eva Green and Hannah Waddingham.

Academy Award® winner Michelle Yeoh stars in The Surgeon – the latest offering of John Wick creators Thunder Road. Yeoh leads as a retired physician, who is forced to wield her medical experience in a fight for survival when she is abducted to operate on a mysterious patient. Director Roshan Sethi delivers a bold and visceral take on the action genre that has been positioned as a potential franchise.

The slate also embraces family entertainment with the acquisition of High In The Clouds, the animated feature inspired by Paul McCartney’s beloved children’s book. The film features an extraordinary voice cast, including Céline Dion, Omar Sy, Hannah Waddingham, Idris Elba and Jimmy Fallon, alongside original songs written exclusively by McCartney. Directed by Toby Genkel and scored by Academy Award® winning composer Michael Giacchino, the film is produced in association with Sky alongside Gaumont, MPL Communications and Polygram Entertainment.

In the crime thriller space, Sky will distribute Blood On Snow, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and adapted from the bestselling novel by Jo Nesbø. The film features an exceptional ensemble led by Aaron Taylor‑Johnson, with Benedict Cumberbatch, Eva Green and Pilou Asbæk also starring. Set in Oslo’s criminal underworld, the story follows a contract killer whose latest job spirals into a dark and emotionally charged moral dilemma.

Rounding out the slate is the explosive action thriller Empire City, which reunites Gerard Butler with Den of Thieves director Christian Gudegast. Set against the iconic backdrop of the Empire State Building, the film centres on a high‑stakes hostage crisis that forces a former Navy SEAL‑turned‑firefighter into a race against time to save civilians and protect one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks.

In a comment on the acquisitions, Sky’s Head of Original Film Andrew Orr noted, “We’re thrilled to be working with such extraordinary filmmakers and performers as we continue to build a distinctive, fresh and diverse offering of Original films. This slate brings together some of the most compelling talent working across film, music and animation, and reflects our commitment to bringing the best storytelling to our viewers across a full range of genres.”
