More dates released for Sky Academy Skills Studios

The next set of release dates for Sky Academy Skills Studios are being announced today. Teachers can now book for the summer term for this interactive learning experience, which gives students aged 8 to 18 the opportunity to build key life skills that they will take away and carry into the future. Through the use of state-of-the-art technology, students will be able to experience each step of creating a television news report relating to the current curriculum.

During this hands on, half day experience, young people are given an exclusive behind the scenes tour of Sky’s broadcasting studios, providing them with an insight into how television is shaped and shared. They divide into teams where they will write their own script, shoot and edit each part of the television news report. Not only will they take on a variety of roles, they’re taught how to use the latest technology working with Sky experts and take the final product home with them at the end of the day. Lesson plans are tailored around the schools visit, helping teachers and students to get the most out of their experience and focus on five key life skills; creativity, communication, problem-solving, self-management and teamwork.

We’re aiming to provide even more opportunities through the opening of our new Sky Academy Skills Studios in Livingston, Scotland. This free learning experience links to the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence will be opened in 2015.

Sky Academy Skills Studios aims to inspire students, build essential life skills and to help leave a positive, long-term social impact on young people. Since the launch of Sky Academy Skills Studios in 2012 we have had over 30,000 young people through our doors. Through Sky Academy, we are aiming to create opportunities for up to one million young people by 2020.
