Critically acclaimed Extreme World returns for a second series

UNDER STRICT EMBARGO UNTIL 24 May, 2012 AT 0001HRS

Today Sky 1 HD announces the return of new, unmissable and exclusive factual documentary series ROSS KEMP’S EXTREME WORLD (6 x 60), coming this autumn.

The first series of Extreme World aired in Spring 2011 and received critical acclaim. The Times said “You can’t argue with the outstanding access Kemp gets. Shockingly intimate”, The Daily Telegraph praised saying “Credit where credit is due, Ross Kemp tackles compellingly edgy subjects” and The Sun called the series “eye-opening and engrossing from the outset”.

A major hit with Sky viewers and critics alike, the series re-affirmed Ross and his team's reputation as one of the industry’s most exciting of documentary producers. Ross' ability to engage a wide audience in a broad range of difficult subjects makes Extreme World one of the most successful factual strands on British television today.

In this series Ross travels to President Chavez's Venezuela where murder and kidnapping are out of control. In Kenya and Tanzania he looks at the shocking wave of witch-hunt related murders that is sweeping through the remote rural communities. In Pakistan, Ross gets caught in the cross-fire as he reports on the battle for Karachi, spending time with armed political militias who are fighting in the streets for votes. Closer to home, Ross is in Glasgow, meeting those for whom extreme poverty is a way of life in recession blighted Britain. And, Ross delves into the underworld of post-Katrina New Orleans, the murder capital of the USA. Finally, he explores the modern-day French Connection in Marseille.

Celia Taylor, Head of Features & Factual: “Rossability to gain access to some of the most notorious and dangerous locations on the planet is extraordinary. The first series was a great hit with sky customers and I am thrilled the series is returning.”

Ross Kemp: "I was surprised and delighted by the positive response to the first series of Extreme World. I honestly believe that this forthcoming Extreme World is equal to, if not better, than the first series. I hope SKY 1 audiences will find this new series as enthralling to watch as my team and I did making it."

ROSS KEMP’S EXTREME WORLD has been commissioned by Head of Factual Celia Taylor at Sky.

The Executive and Series Producer is Matt Bennett. The Producer is Tom Watson. The series is a Freshwater Films production.

These latest commissions are part of Sky's commitment to increase its investment in original British content by 50% over the next three years. By 2014, Sky expects to invest £600 million a year in British programmes across its portfolio of channels.  This commitment follows the success of home-grown comedies such as TROLLIED, SPY and STELLA, entertainment hits GOT TO DANCE and A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, dramas such as STRIKE BACK and MAD DOGS, and factual shows including ROSS KEMP EXTREME WORLD, AN IDIOT ABROAD and the BAFTA-winning documentary FLYING MONSTERS 3D.

ROSS KEMP is exclusively on Sky 1 HD and Sky 1 this Autumn. Following the addition of Sky 1 HD to Sky Go, customers will also be able to watch on the move on iPad, selected smartphones and laptops at no extra cost.
