Seeing the bigger picture

We understand that creating a business that endures for the long-term means looking beyond our immediate commercial priorities to consider the impact that we have on the wider communities in which we operate. We call this seeing the bigger picture and our approach covers three areas.

First, we make a significant and growing economic and social contribution to Britain and Ireland.  We provide choice for customers and we are a big supporter of sport and the creative industries. And as a successful company, we contributed ?5.9 billion to UK GDP, supported 121,000 jobs and generated ?2.7 billion of tax revenues in the last year.

Second, we think as much about how we do business day to day as what we do.

Third, we believe that our position as an entertainment and communications company in over 11 million homes gives us an opportunity to inspire our customers and make a wider impact.

We have focused our energies on four areas that we’re passionate about: using the power of sport to improve lives; opening up the arts and celebrating creativity; helping young people develop new skills; and taking action to protect the environment.

Through our bigger picture website, you can find out about our progress over the past year. The results show we are making a difference, over 60% of our customers are now aware of our initiatives.

Finally, we know we can’t do this alone, so thank you to everyone who has got involved helping us create a more sustainable society and building a better business for the long term.
