Sky 1 HD celebrates the great family holiday as it commissions The Sun Set (w/t)

Sky 1 HD today announces The Sun Set (w/t), an innovative new series that celebrates the great family holiday in all its forms. The show will be a no holds barred look at what happens when a variety of British & Irish families share a break together in a luxurious villa complex, the complex being rigged with cameras that will catch everything that unfolds.

The Sun Set is the first commission to come out of Sky 1 Director,Adam MacDonald’s priority investment in the channel’s 8pm slot that heoutlined last November. Wanting to focus on fresh thinking factual entertainment, the 8 x 60 Twofour and GroupM Entertainment co-productionis Sky 1’s first ever rig show.

The series will use a combination of fixed rig techniques and single camerafilming to explore the fascinating dynamics of the family holiday, revealinga rich mix of stories about the families involved, ranging from the dramaticand the revelatory to the warm and inspirational. Each of the eight programmeswill see a new set of British & Irish families, of all shapes, sizesand backgrounds, welcomed to the complex in Europe, resulting in a uniquelook at the family dynamic on holiday.

Adam MacDonald, Director of Sky 1 said, “Families in all their diversity are central to what we’re doing on Sky 1. The annual family holiday is always one to remember – with moments of joy, laughter, playfulness and often, sheer embarrassment, so we can’t wait for our customers to slap on the factor 30 and come join us.”

Twofour Group Creative Director, Andrew Mackenzie
added,“This is a new combination production techniques, bringing a unique approach to a universal family occasion.”

Sky 1’s commissioning editor for factual, Chris Wilson,
commented,“The family holiday is a universal part of British & Irish family life, yet in terms of factual television, it’s disappeared off our screens. We’re delighted to be working with Twofour and GroupM Entertainment to rectify that, and to celebrate, and re-examine, with forensic detail, this joyous aspect of family life.”
