Sky 1 HD continues to grow entertainment portfolio with new commission Quiz Nights

Sky 1 HD today (Thursday 4th September) announces QUIZ NIGHTS, a brand-new 8x60 fixed rig entertainment series from Firecracker Films that embraces the nation’s love of pub quizzes. Each week viewers will follow four different teams, each one in a different pub across the country, as they battle it out against each other, answering identical quiz questions, in the contest to be crowned that week’s pub quiz champion.

QUIZ NIGHTS, is part of Sky’s investment in original British content. In an exciting combination of a TV quiz show and an observational documentary, featured teams will be seen deliberating, squabbling and laughing as they search for the right and wrong answers. As the series continues, new pubs and teams will be introduced keeping quizzers on their toes whilst a band of determined, prolific, regular quiz teams will be seen returning throughout.

Structured in rounds, the quiz itself will be easy to follow using a range of on screen graphics to encourage Sky 1 customers to grab a pen and paper and play along from home. Scores and answers will be held until the end of each round, before one team will finally win the much coveted ‘golden tankard’ at the end of the night. Participating pubs include: The Queens Arms, Birmingham; The Old Nuns Head, London; Peter Kavanagh's, Liverpool; The Rose and Crown, Chelmsford; Kelly's Dispensary, Liverpool; Stanley Working Men's Club, Blackpool; The Royal Blenheim, Oxford and The Lyceum Tavern, Newport.

Adam McDonald, Director of Sky 1, comments: “QUIZ NIGHTS is a celebration of a quintessentially British night and we are very excited for it to be coming to Sky 1. We wanted a show that is not only a piece of fascinating people watching TV but that also allows Sky customers to play along from home and really get involved.”

Sky Commissioning Editor Entertainment, Chris Brogden adds: “Whether just for fun or for the highly competitive, QUIZ NIGHTS will be a true celebration of one of Britain’s great institutions.”

Morgan Roberts, Firecracker Films added: "Firecracker Films are delighted to be working with Sky on such a unique idea - a show with heart, humour, rivalry, intrigue and a brilliant cast of characters. We want to make a series that captures the imagination and takes the idea of a traditional quiz show into a completely new space”.

Entertainment shows on Sky 1 HD include:  GOT TO DANCE, the BAFTA Award winning A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, DUCK QUACKS DON’T ECHO and the upcoming WILD THINGS, RELATIVELY CLEVER, KING OF THE NERDS and KINGS  & QUEENS OF SPEECH.

QUIZ NIGHTS has been commissioned by Adam MacDonald and Chris Brogden and will be executive produced by Jes Wilkins and Morgan Roberts for Firecracker Films. The Series Producer is Ollie Manley for Firecracker Films.

Production starts immediately for transmission on Sky 1 HD next year.
