Sky Atlantic acquires Gomorrah from Arrow Films

Friday 28 March 2014

Sky Atlantic HD today (28 March, 2014) announce the acquisition of gritty Italian drama GOMORRAH from Arrow Films and Beta Film, Munich / Germany.  The 12x 60’ series will receive its exclusive UK television premiere on Sky Atlantic later this year.

Based on Robert Saviano’s book of the same name which the New York Times dubbed “the most important book to come out of Italy in years”, GOMORRAH is the inside story of fierce Neapolitan crime organisation the Camorra, as seen through the eyes of Ciro (Marco D’Amore), the obedient and self-confident right-hand man of the clan’s godfather whose loyalty is tested to its limits.

Acclaimed Italian writer and director Stefano Sollima (Romanzo Criminale, All Cops Are Bastards) is responsible for the overall art direction and also directs multiple episodes of GOMORRAH, which is shot on location in and around Naples, Barcelona, Milan and Ferrara.

Julia Barry, Channel Director for Sky Atlantic, comments: “Following on the success of Sky Atlantic’s first bi-lingual drama The Tunnel, we’re thrilled to announce the acquisition of the channel’s first foreign language series.  With cinematic scale and a gripping tale of conflict, loyalty and power, GOMORRAH is a perfect addition to Sky Atlantic’s impressive slate of quality shows – both acquired and home-grown – which we pride ourselves on bringing exclusively to our customers.”

Alex Agran, Managing Director of Arrow Films, adds: “We are delighted to be partnering with Sky Atlantic for the broadcast launch of Gomorrah. Atlantic is the perfect home for this outstanding series and Arrow Films is proud to bring the first foreign language series to the channel. We look forward to a fruitful ongoing relationship with Sky.”

Oliver Bachert, SVP of International Sales and Production, Beta Film adds: “Gomorrah is a milestone of new European television.  Beta is delighted and proud to deliver this outstanding production to the UK audience in cooperation with Arrow Film and through such a prestigious partner as SKY Atlantic.”

GOMORRAH will air in the UK in Italian with English subtitles on Sky Atlantic later this year.

GOMORRAH was acquired for Sky Atlantic by Sophie Judge, Acquisitions Manager, Sky Entertainment.  Beta Film is handling international distribution of the series.

Sky Atlantic is available to all Sky TV customers and through NOW TV with the NOW TV Entertainment Month Pass.
