Sky Atlantic celebrates Hunderby’s British Comedy Award success

At the British Comedy Awards on Wednesday 13th December HUNDERBY, Julia Davis’ critically acclaimed comedy for Sky Atlantic HD, stormed to victory in the Best New Comedy Programme and Best Sitcom categories.

The comedy, which premiered in August this year, formed part of Sky Atlantic HD’s Comedy Mondays alongside new original and exclusive programming from some of the biggest names in comedy - from Steve Coogan to Armando Iannucci, and Adam Buxton to Jack Dee.

HUNDERBY attracted widespread critical acclaim, with The Guardian noting that it “isn’t quite like anything else on television... original, bold and brilliant” and The Times finding it “intelligent and beautifully made”.

About the win, the series’ creator, Julia Davis commented:

HUNDERBY has been a huge passion project of mine for many years and I'm so amazed and proud to have won two awards when up against such other brilliant shows; it's a real honour. I was so dazed to win it left me a bit speechless but want to say a massive thank you to the incredible cast and crew, to Barunka and to the hugely talented people at Sky Atlantic and Baby Cow for believing in it and making it happen”

Sky’s Head of Comedy, Lucy Lumsden, commented:

There are some shows which you know from the start are going to be very, very special. HUNDERBY was one of those for me, so I’m thrilled that Julia’s phenomenal talent has been recognised at the British Comedy Awards.”

Director of Sky Atlantic, Elaine Pyke, added:

As a key part of Sky Atlantic’s investment in comedy, I’m delighted that HUNDERBY has taken the industry by storm. Everyone at Sky Atlantic is raising a glass of bubbly milk to the genius that is Julia Davis on her thoroughly deserved success at the British Comedy Awards.”

In addition to HUNDERBY’s double win, other Sky nominations included Sky Atlantic’s ALAN PARTRIDGE: WELCOME TO THE PLACES OF MY LIFE which was nominated for Best New Comedy Programme and also Best TV Comedy Actor for Steve Coogan. Sky 1’s MOONE BOY was also nominated for Best New Comedy Programme as well as attracting a nomination for Best Comedy Breakthrough Artist for newcomer David Rawle.

HUNDERBY will be repeated as part of Sky Atlantic HD’s Comedy Mondays from the 14th January 2013, alongside brand new comedy COMMON GROUND and the second series of HBO’s GIRLS.
