Sky Atlantic is proud to announce HBO’s GAME CHANGE, a searing behind-the-scenes look at John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, starring Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin, Woody Harrelson as campaign strategist Steve Schmidt and Ed Harris as John McCain. Directed by Jay Roach and written by Danny Strong, the team behind the Emmy™-winning HBO drama Recount, GAME CHANGE will transmit exclusively on Sky Atlantic HD and Sky Atlantic on APRIL 26th 2012.

Based on the bestselling book of the same name by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, GAME CHANGE pulls back the curtain on the intense human drama surrounding the 2008 election, focusing on how John McCain and his advisors chose Sarah Palin to be the vice presidential candidate and the impact this decision had on both his campaign and Palin herself. Told through the eyes of McCain strategist Steve Schmidt, the man who most championed Palin for the ticket, the film revisits a defining moment in U.S politics.

Intrigued by Sarah Palin’s meteoric rise from a relatively obscure position as Governor in Alaska to a spot on the presidential ticket, and her dramatic emergence as the “game changer” for McCain’s beleaguered campaign, writer Strong observed: “We landed on Sarah Palin as the person to centre this story on, because we wanted to explore why someone who was never on the national stage would want to run for office and be thrust in to the national spotlight, literally overnight.”

Discussing her preparation for the role of Palin, Julianne Moore added: “It was tremendously challenging to represent someone so very well-known and idiosyncratic, and so recently in the public eye. Obviously you want to be as exact as possible physically, as well as attempt to inhabit them emotionally. It is impossible, of course, to actually become that person, but I had to somehow capture her essence and let her exist in the story we were telling.”

GAME CHANGE also stars Ron Livingston (Swingers), Peter MacNicol (Grey’s Anatomy, 24), Sarah Paulson (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), Jamey Sheridan (Homeland) and Bruce Altman (Blue Bloods).

An HBO Film, GAME CHANGE is a Playtone Production in association with Everyman Pictures. Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Jay Roach are Executive Producers, and Danny Strong and Steven Shareshian are Co-Executive Producers.

GAME CHANGE will air exclusively on Sky Atlantic HD and Sky Atlantic on April 26th 2012 and will be available to watch on Sky Go.
