Sky Atlantic wins three awards at The Bafta TV awards 2013
Monday 13th May: After receiving more BAFTA nominations than ever before in Sky’s history, Sky Atlantic won three awards at last night’s BAFTA TV Awards.
Sky’s investment in original comedy programming was rewarded with Steve Coogan receiving Best Male Performance in a Comedy for Alan Partridge: Welcome to the Places of My Life. The award follows Julia Davis’ recent recognition at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards for Best Comedy Writer for Hunderby.
Girls won the award for International programme, the second award for the critically acclaimed series, written by Lena Dunham, after its recent win in the same category at the RTS Awards.
Game of Thrones received the Radio Times Audience Award, voted for by the public. The third series of the hugely popular US drama recently began on Sky Atlantic to widespread critical acclaim, further cementing it as one of the shows our customers are most passionate about.
Stuart Murphy, Director, Sky Entertainment Channels, said: “For Sky to have received more nominations than ever before in its history was already fantastic, but to win three BAFTAs is just brilliant. Along with Hunderby's win at the Craft Awards, we have won four BAFTAs this year - a record for us. Sky Atlantic is going from strength to strength and I'm incredibly pleased for everyone involved on and off screen.”
Elaine Pyke, Director, Sky Atlantic HD said: “I am absolutely delighted that Girls and Steve Coogan, for his performance in Alan Partridge: Welcome to the Places of My Life, have been recognised by BAFTA, and I'm especially thrilled for Game of Thrones to have received the Radio Times Audience Award. They are such brilliant, bold and original programmes it is a privilege to have them on Sky Atlantic and a pleasure to work with all involved.”
