Sky channels get behind Earth Hour with Rainforest Weekend
Earlier this week I posted an update on the great progress we’re making on the ground with our Sky Rainforest Rescue campaign.
Our fundraising is set for an extra boost in the coming days as, for the second year, money raised through Earth Hour will go towards helping to protect the Amazon rainforest with Sky Rainforest Rescue. At Sky we’re also supporting the global initiative through a weekend of dedicated environmentally-focused programming across our network. I’m particularly excited that we’ll be premiering a brand new documentary Secret Life of the Rainforest on Sky 3D, taking viewers right up close to life in the rainforest in stunning 3D.
This Saturday and Sunday, Sky 1 viewers can enjoy episodes of eco-design series The Great Treehouse Challenge, as well as a look back at our Rooftop Rainforest special, which followed urban ecologist and wildlife expert Dusty Gedge in his effort to build an indoor rainforest on top of the Westfield London shopping centre.
Sky 1 will also be taking viewers right to the heart of our goal to save one billion trees in the Amazon rainforest through The Jones Boys Amazon Adventure.
On Sky Movies, we’ll be featuring the family film Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest – a fantasy adventure story which also carries some important messaging for younger generations regarding the importance of conservation.
Sky Arts will also be taking part in Rainforest Weekend, presenting The Greening of Southie documentary, detailing the construction of Boston’s first green residential complex, The Macallen Building, which is now considered a leading development in environmentally friendly design.
Sky Arts will also air the critically acclaimed story of a shepherd’s efforts to reforest a desolate valley in the animated film The Man Who Planted Trees, and take viewers on a moving journey in The Mighty River, an Oscar-nominated feature uncovering the impact of human exploitation on the St Lawrence River in North America.
It’s set to be a great weekend of programming which we hope will really help to increase awareness of the impact of deforestation and inspire our customers to take action on climate change.
