Sky has today announced King of the Apocalypse, a Sky Original feature documentary, directed by Dan Vernon. With unprecedented access, this timely film takes us into the heart of the American right-wing militia movement, through the perspective of Dakota Adams, the de-radicalised son of Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the Oath Keepers.

Produced by Noble Beast and Sky Studios in association with NBC News Studios, the film follows a dramatic period during which Rhodes was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role in the January 6th attack on the US Capitol.  The documentary offers unique access to Stewart Rhodes himself, as well as Dakota and his mother Tasha, who tell the story of the enigmatic leader’s origins, their beliefs about his descent into paranoia and the family’s escape from his control and influence.

Over the course of Rhodes’ imprisonment, a new generation of more radical militia leaders have continued to emerge, such as Mike Dunn of the Boogaloo Bois, who believes that January 6th was a dress rehearsal for the real civil war that's coming. As Dakota claws his way out from extremism, Mike Dunn is drawn in deeper.

Through the narrative of one family, torn apart by extremism, King of the Apocalypse tells the bigger story of how militia groups are threatening democracy in the US, providing essential insights into where the country could be heading next.

King of the Apocalypse is a Noble Beast and Sky Studios production in association with NBC News Studios. The documentary was financed by Sky and MSNBC Films. It was commissioned by Hayley Reynolds, Acting Director of Documentaries and Factual at Sky, for Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of Sky Studios & Chief Content Officer for Sky Documentaries and by Amanda Spain for MSNBC Films. The Commissioning Editor for Sky is Bruce Fletcher. The Executive Producers are Vesna Cudic for Sky Studios, Molly O’Brien for NBC News Studios and Mike Giglio. The film is produced by Ted Bourne for Noble Beast.

King of the Apocalypse airs 22nd January on Sky Documentaries and NOW.
