Sky Go reveals most popular TV of 2012

This morning we are unveiling the most popular TV of last year on Sky Go, our award-winning multiplatform TV service

As you might expect, sport is the most popular genre for live viewing, with Europe’s triumphant Ryder Cup campaign bringing more than 700,000 unique users and a total of 4 million live views to Sky Go during the tournament. The flexibility of being able to watch live Premier League action on the move also helped to attract large numbers of users during the year, with the Man Utd vs. Man City derby last April attracting 234,000 unique users.

At the same time, Sky customers have also embraced Sky Go to enjoy Sky Movies on demand across laptops, smartphones, mobile tablets & games consoles. Our figures today reveal that the Cameron Diaz comedy Bad Teacher was the most popular on-demand movie of the year on the service, followed by the action films Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Captain America: The First Avenger. 

Meanwhile, Sky’s home-grown UK shows appear throughout the top ten most popular box sets of the year on Sky Go, including all three series of An Idiot Abroad, the panel show A League of their Own and action drama Strike Back: Vengeance. Sky Atlantic’s Game of Thrones takes top spot as the most streamed entertainment series of the year on the service.

This week we’re taking another major step forward with the launch of a brand new service Sky Go Extra, which becomes the first mobile TV subscription service in the UK & Ireland to offer Hollywood movies for download to watch offline.

Launching today, Sky Go Extra lets customers download the latest blockbuster films from Sky Movies as well as shows from channels such as Sky 1 and Sky Atlantic to watch when and where they want, without the need for a WiFi or 3G/4G connection. For just £5 per month, Sky customers will be able to choose from hundreds of Hollywood films to download, including Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Avengers Assemble and Pirates In An Adventure with Scientists.

Sky Go Extra is also ideal for Sky households in which a number of people enjoy using Sky Go, offering customers the chance to register up to four, rather than the usual two, internet-connected devices to watch great Sky content on the move.
