Sky News expands Middle East Team

Sky News is expanding its editorial team in the Middle East with two key appointments. Former Al Jazeera  presenter, Sherine Tadros, joins Sky as the channel’s new Middle East Correspondent and Tom Rayner, currently Middle East News Editor for Sky News, is appointed Middle East Reporter.

Sherine will be based in Cairo but will cover stories from across the region, as well as working closely with Sky News’ sister station Sky News Arabia. She brings with her strong experience of reporting in the Middle East having covered the recent Arab Spring uprisings in Egypt, Libya and Yemen, as well as being one of only two foreign journalists covering the Gaza war in 2008-2009 from inside Gaza.  Tom will be based in Jerusalem and will also be deployed across the region.

Both journalists will be responsible for delivering the latest news and analysis across Sky News’ multiple platforms, as well as helping customers across the world understand the complexities of the region.

Dan Williams, Head of International News, commented: ‘I am delighted to make these two appointments. Egypt is now at the very heart of the Middle East story and we will get enormous benefit from having a permanent presence there. Sherine is an award winning journalist with a proven track record of delivering world-class coverage. Tom, in the eighteen months he has been based in the region, has already made a significant impact. Together I know they will take our coverage from strength to strength.’

Commenting on her appointment, Sherine said: “ This is a period of historic transformation across the Middle East and I am honoured and excited to be part of a network that aims to deliver informed, compelling coverage at this crucial time.”

Sherine will begin her new role at the beginning of May.
