Tuesday 13 March 2012

Content created exclusively for iPhone

More in depth coverage including new technology section and live blogging

Improved navigation and all modules supported by dual orientation

LONDON, 13th March 2012: Today Sky News launches Version 2 of its award winning iPhone app. The app, which has been downloaded over 3 million times, now benefits from bespoke coverage, and an intuitive modular approach similar to Sky News for iPad.

Bespoke content for the app includes the creation of picture galleries, interactive images, graphs, timelines and live blogging including Twitter updates. All modules are supported by dual orientation on the iPhone and users can now enjoy improved navigation by swiping between stories and categories.

A new section for Technology News is now available as well as the standard tabs users will expect: UK News, World News, Politics, Business, Showbiz and Strange News. As before visitors can still watch Sky News live with either 3G or WiFi connectivity.

The app will be supported by the channel’s new in-house content management system that powers all Sky News’ digital platforms allowing for more synergy across multiple devices.

Andrew Hawken, Head of Editorial, Sky News Digital, said: ‘This is a big step forward for our iPhone app. We are constantly striving to make the user experience the very best across all our platforms. I know our customers will enjoy the more intuitive approach we’ve created within the app as well as the richer and more in depth news experience it offers.’
