Sky News Scoops Golden Nymph Award
This evening Alex Crawford, Sky News’ Special Correspondent, and her team were awarded a prestigious Golden Nymph Award at the 54th Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
Alex and her team - cameraman Garwen McLuckie, producer Nick Ludlam and cameraman/producer Jim Foster - won the Best TV News Item with their report on victims of rape in the Central African Republic.
The report beat off competition from the BBC, CNN and al Jazeera to win the category.
Alex commented: ‘We all consider ourselves hardened news journalists yet this story affected us all with its brutality. We were stunned by the medieval methods used to haul this baby out of this young, traumatised rape victim. It was a difficult story to cover because it was so traumatic for the mother, baby and midwives but we’re delighted that the Mote Carlo jury took the brave decision to recognise this difficult and sensitive subject. It’s a great honour.’
