Sky Sports 5 - The first channel dedicated to European football

Tuesday 10 June 2014

Today we’ve announced some more good news for Sky Sports viewers – we’re launching a brand new channel, Sky Sports 5.

Sky Sports 5 will be the new home of European football, including EURO 2016 qualifiers, Champions League, La Liga, Copa del Rey, and for the first time, Eredivisie – Holland’s top division.

The channel goes live on 12 August and it will be available to all Sky Sports customers who can activate it from 12 June. As well as all this live European football, they’ll get a further bonus of two years’ free and totally unlimited Sky Broadband Unlimited worth £7.50 a month. This great deal is the ultimate package for sports fans.

It’s the seventh Sky Sports channel and the thinking behind it is quite simple. Our football coverage gets even stronger next season with more matches than ever before, including up to 600 live European fixtures.  We believe our viewers will enjoy having a brand new channel dedicated to showcasing the passion and excitement that we love about the European game.

To encourage Sky Sports subscribers to make the most of the free channel and broadband offer, we’ve got some great activity going on to spread the word. As well as appearing in national print and outdoor marketing, Sky ambassador David Beckham stars in a James Bond-style advertisement vetting the next big breakthrough innovations in sport alongside Sky Sports’ chief boffin. Tune in to the first ad break of the World Cup on ITV on Thurs 12 June at 21:45 to see the ad in full. Or you click on the clip above.

For sports fans, it’s great news in the middle of another huge summer of sport.  We have Formula 1, England Test match cricket, Super League, Majors golf, England v the All Blacks and the summer rugby union tours of Scotland, Ireland and Wales. There is so much more including daily news and views from the FIFA World Cup on Sky Sports News.

Sky Sports keeps getting stronger and there’s never been a better time to be a subscriber.  And with the launch of our new home of European football, there’s even more reasons to enjoy our unrivalled football coverage.
