Sky Sports App triumphs at Sports Technology Awards 2014

Friday 4 April 2014

As the race for the Premier League title enters the home straight and the battle for promotion in the Sky Bet Football Leagues hots up, Sky Sports are hard at work.

Not only are we putting the finishing touches to months of hard work on and off the football field but we’re also gearing up for an outstanding summer of sport that lies ahead including Formula 1, international and domestic cricket, summer international rugby tours, women's rugby world cup, golf Majors, Rugby Super League, tennis and more. The action doesn't end there either, with the Ryder Cup from Gleneagles - Sky Sports' 10th - looming large in September. We can't wait!

At Sky Sports, we’re not only committed to giving our customers access to the best in live sport, but also to continually driving innovation to deliver new experiences for sports fans not available anywhere else. It’s gratifying when this commitment is recognised by the industry, which is why we are so pleased that the Sky Sports for iPad App has been named 'Best Sports App for Multiple Sports' at the inaugural Sports Technology Awards today.

The app - available at no extra charge to all Sky Sports customers - enhances Sky customer’s viewing of our live coverage of the UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League, Ashes Cricket, Formula One, The Masters from Augusta and the Ryder Cup with a host of great features customised for each event. In their citation, the judges said that the app “further extends Sky Sports’ coverage of sport. It shows the determination to take its coverage to the next level. It is simply outstanding".

Among many other features, the app offers split screen functionality enabling Sky customers to customise the mix of video that they're watching, Sky Sports 360 - allowing fans to re-watch match Champions League highlights from up to 20 different angles and even gives Sky customers access to Gary Neville's Monday Night Football touchscreen analysis tools. The app is used by millions of Sky Sports fans every month to keep up with team scores, follow favourite team cars around the current F1® track and ensure the Sky Sports Radio is never far away.

We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Sky Sports leads the way in digital technology - be it on our newly-crowned app, on TV and online.
