Sky Sports News - taking our F1 coverage even further for fans

Tuesday 13 March 2012

There’s a fantastic buzz around Sky Sports News this week with the unfamiliar roar of Formula 1 engines filling our edit suites and drilling into the heart of the newsroom. We’ve been reporting on the final testing sessions ahead of the new season. And with our picture editors crafting the stories that are going to air each hour we’re getting a close-up view of the final preparations as the teams prepare for the first race in Melbourne.

This is the first time Sky Sports News HD has been able to cover Formula 1 in such depth. From the team launches earlier this year to the three weeks of testing over the last month we’ve been able to give our viewers fantastic behind the scenes coverage ahead of what’s going to be a great season.

And we can’t wait for the season to start.

When we started planning our coverage we realised there was huge appetite for more F1 news and that until now no TV channel had covered the stories around the race with what we call the full Sky Sports News HD treatment.

And that’s what we’re going to give it. Fans will finally get the chance to see what goes into staging a race with our experienced journalists Craig Slater and Rachel Brookes reporting live from every circuit.

We’ll be in the pit-lane and around the paddock bringing viewers all the latest news as the teams arrive in town. We’ll show the freight cases being unpacked, the garages being set up and the tyres being delivered. We’ll have experts walk the track and film at the key corners ahead of the race. We’ll show our viewers the frantic activity as cars are assembled and pitwalls are built.

The drivers usually arrive at the track on the Wednesday of race week. We’ll be there to meet them and we’ll be chasing the key interviews. Sometimes these are one to one, sometimes it’s part of a huddle with other journalists. But we know our reporters will be asking the right questions.

At our newsroom in London we’ll have expert analysis around the races. We aim to make sure fans don’t miss a thing with the coverage on Sky Sports News HD complementing our new Sky Sports F1 HD channel.

It’s a packed season with more twists and turns than you’ll find at Monte Carlo. And with Sky Sports News available on Sky Go you’ll be able to keep up to date with each twist and every turn wherever you are.

And our coverage won’t finish when the race does. We’ll be following up with extra interviews and extra pictures. We’ll have the latest development on every story and we’ll see the teams wave goodbye and roll out of town at the end of the weekend.

And then we’ll do it all again at the next race.
