Sky to broadcast the 2012 Isle Of Wight Festival with increased coverage live and in 3D
Sky Arts returns as the broadcast partner of the Isle of Wight Festival, marking the second year of working in partnership with festival organisers. This year Sky will increase its commitment to the festival, broadcasting live for 6 hours a day throughout the festival on Sky Arts and Sky 3D.
The Isle of Wight Festival attracts some of the biggest names in music and Sky Arts and Sky 3D will be at the heart of all the action, taking in the biggest acts, headlines and longer sets from the Main Stage, Big Top and Garden Stage, together with live acts and backstage gossip from Sky’s onsite studio. Last year the festival was the first summer festival in the world to be broadcast live in 3D on Sky 3D.
“The Isle of Wight festival is the most dynamic and exciting festival in the UK: we knew that with this year’s line-up, Sky Arts coverage had to be bigger, better and bolder than ever before,” comments James Hunt, channel director of Sky Arts. “Broadcasting the festival live for six hours a day not only confirms Sky Arts as the destination for great music coverage, with 3D it also brings viewers closer to the real-life festival experience.”
Promoter John Giddings of the Solo music group said: “We are pleased to have Sky Arts back on board this year as our official broadcaster. We will be bringing the Festival right to people’s living rooms and allowing them to feel like they are part of such a great weekend. Can’t wait- bring it on!”
This year’s festival features:
Friday: Tom Petty Heartbreakers, Elbow, Example, Noah & The Whale and Feeder.
Saturday: Pearl Jam, Biffy Clyro, Tinie Tempah, Jessie J, Labrinth and Madness.
Sunday: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, The Vaccines, Band of Skulls and Joan Armatrading.
More than 75,000 people are expected to attend. For ticket information visit www.isleofwightfestival.com/tickets
In recent years, Sky Arts has increased its commitment to coverage of the UK’s festival scene. Last year the channel broadcast two hours a day live coverage from the Isle Of Wight, Latitude and Bestival Festivals as well as 12 highlight programmes from some of the UK’s best summer music festivals.
