Take a walk on the wild side at your local forest

Sky News presenter, Charlotte Hawkins recently launched the Discovery Trails at Alice Holt with local pupils from Rowledge Primary school. Charlotte who is supporting Sky Rainforest Rescue, led the trail as the children began their Amazonian discovery in the forest.

The Discovery Trails, have been created by Sky and WWF in partnership with the Forestry Commission  at six different forest locations across England. The trails are free, open all year round and are suitable for people of all ages and abilities. The Discovery Trails will inspire you to get out into your local forest and learn why they and the Amazon rainforest are so special. Children and adults can learn about the amazing Amazon – the world’s largest rainforest – in the beautiful setting of British woodland. Through five interactive markers, the trails explore the incredible plants, animals and scale of the Amazon. As well as the importance of the world’s rainforests to people and nature, from the everyday products we use.

The trails can be found at:

Alice Holt - open

Beechenhurst Forest of Dean - open

Cannock Chase - launches 20th June

Sherwood Pines - launches 23rd June

Dalby Forest - launches 4th July

Hamsterley Forest - launches 7th July

Take part in the Discovery Trail today and you (and your family) can listen to amazing wildlife sounds or simply learn and compare what products come from the rainforest. Along the trail you will also be able to take a photo in an Amazon rainforest setting and have the opportunity to test your knowledge on forests in England and of course the Amazon.
