Preview of episode 1 to be available to Sky customers On Demand
This summer Sky 1 HD re-opens the doors of THE CAFÉ, as the warm comedy is back with even more treats on the menu... Written by Ralf Little and Michelle Terry, and directed by Craig Cash, THE CAFÉ returns for an 8 x 30 series this July.
Cyril’sof Weston-Super-Mare is run by the multi-generational trilogy of Mary (June Watson), Carol (Ellie Haddington) and Sarah (Michelle Terry). Itremains as the social hub of the seafront town. Following a spell in London, Sarah is continuing to adjust to life back home. As she attempts to pursue a writing career she is still getting reacquainted with old friends who live in the area including Richard (Ralf Little), Sarah’s former childhood sweetheart, a care home assistant by day and a musician by night and former love rival, John (Daniel Ings).
At the end of the first series, Carol won her battle to keep the ailing ‘Cyril’s’ open thanks to the support of her regular customers. Sarah received a writing offer she couldn’t refuse but with her love rivals heading off in separate directions, viewers were left wondering - would Sarah fall for Richard or for John?
New arrivals set to make waves in Weston include the surprise arrival of Carol’s ex and Sarah’s estranged father, Phil, played by Robert Glenister (Hustle); Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Star Stories) will be helping out Stan (David Troughton) as green-fingered gardener Jason. Hopes of rekindled romance between Sarah and Richard remain on hold as things between the latter and Ava (Carolin Stoltz) get serious, and Chloe (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) is in all sorts of trouble when she finds herself in a very complicated relationship.
THE CAFÉ 2 is a Jellylegs production for Sky 1 HD and is directed by Craig Cash. The series was commissioned by Lucy Lumsden, Head of Comedy for Sky and will air exclusively on Sky 1 HD this July.
