A new 5 x 60’ series for Sky 1 HD from Me & You Productions and RoundEd Productions

Sky 1 HD today (Thursday 17 January, 2013) announces the commission of THE MOANING OF LIFE, a 5 x 60’ documentary series from Me & You Productions and RoundEd Productions. Commissioned by Celia Taylor, Head of Factual, the series will be executive produced by Celia Taylor for Sky and Richard Yee and Krishnendu Majumdar for Me & You Productions.

After being sent around the world three times by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant for An Idiot Abroad, Karl Pilkington is going it alone on a journey of self-discovery. Now Karl has turned 40 and has officially hit middle age, he’s ready to re-assess his life. THE MOANING OF LIFE will see Karl set off around the world to experience how other cultures face up to life’s big issues as he makes plans for his future.

Karl Pilkington said: “I’ve been on the planet for 40 years now, and I’m still none the wiser as to what it’s all about really. I've never worried about life’s big questions. People at my age sit about pondering about ‘why are we here?’ The only time I ever asked meself that is when Suzanne booked us a surprise holiday to Lanzarote."

Celia Taylor said: “We are thrilled to be continuing our relationship with Karl following three series of An Idiot Abroad, which all resonated brilliantly with our customers. THE MOANING OF LIFE will be a unique take on the challenges that we all face in life, presented in Karl’s inimitable way. ”

Richard Yee and Krishnendu Majumdar, co-founders, Me & You Productions, added: “Following the huge global success of An Idiot Abroad, we are really looking forward to working with Sky once again on the production of THE MOANING OF LIFE. We can’t believe Karl’s agreed to go back on the road with us after what we’ve put him through for the last three years.

THE MOANING OF LIFE is part of Sky's commitment to increase its investment in original British content by 50% over the next three years. By 2014, Sky expects to invest £600 million a year in British programmes across its portfolio of channels.  This commitment follows the success of home-grown content such as entertainment hits GOT TO DANCE, AN IDIOT ABROAD and A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, dramas such as STRIKE BACK and MAD DOGS, comedies such as TROLLIED, SPY and THIS IS JINSY, and factual shows such as ROSS KEMP EXTREME WORLD and the BAFTA-winning documentary FLYING MONSTERS 3D.

THE MOANING OF LIFE will air exclusively on Sky 1 HD and Sky 1 in Autumn 2013.
