Top 10 Entertainments shows on Sky in January
I know people have been counting down the days since my last blog. Well, wait no longer. It’s here. Big old phew.
Last month’s blog was about how 2014 is our
biggest ever year of entertainment so it’s great to see a strong start for both new and returning Sky
series.
I am particularly chuffed with the reception The Kumars got. After a six year break from our
screens, Sanjeev and his family moved to Hounslow, and almost 1 million welcomed them into their
new home. A great number and meant it was on the list of top rating shows next to huge juggernauts Criminal Minds and Hawaii Five-0.
Also
welcomed back with a cwtch (means “a cuddle” in Welsh) was Stella,
which takes third place in the January charts. Me and the kids watched all 10 episodes in two sittings so
know what’s in store, and I cannot wait for viewers to see it. It remains Sky 1’s most watched comedy ever, so I’m very happy
Sky 1 boss Adam MacDonald has just confirmed it will return for a fourth series.
Looking
back at January’s top Sky shows it’s heartening to see the variety of content everyone has watched. From Sir
David Attenborough hanging out with the residents of the Natural History Museum to Ross Kemp confronting
gunmen in Papua New Guinea there is not one type of show that dominates. I hope it shows that as a
broadcaster we are getting it right in more than just one area.
Something we sweat blood and tears to sort at Sky is not only what you watch, but how you watch. The wonks in On Demand and Sky Go were giddy when they saw that a quarter of a million people either downloaded Stella to their Sky+ HD box or watched it through Sky Go. This is equivalent to one fifth of the total audience – setting another record for the beautiful ironer from Pontyberry.
