Transfer Deadline Day - the day when the eyes of the football world are on Sky Sports News
Today is our second Transfer Deadline
Day of the season - and if it’s half as eventful as last August, with a record of over £630m spent
by Premier League clubs, it’ll be one to remember.
My co-host, Natalie Sawyer, and I
have been working together on Deadline Day for the past 5 years and we love it. It’s a day where my phone
doesn’t stop ringing, with managers calling me with the latest news and insights into their club’s comings
and goings. In particular, my good friend and fan’s favourite, QPR manager Harry Redknapp is great at
contacting me with his inside knowledge. And it’s safe to say Sky Sports News viewers love Harry’s
‘car-window’ interviews!
Today, we will have over 200 people working on producing the
19 hours of live coverage. Alongside that, 25 reporters and 20 camera trucks will be stationed up and down
the UK giving viewers the latest low-downs on all the rumours and completed deals. Together, they make sure
that the latest news is available to our viewers to follow on 11 different platforms such as Sky Go, NOW TV and Sky
Sports Radio, keeping viewers fully up to date wherever they are.
Over the
years, our viewers have become fanatical about Deadline Day, seizing the opportunity to keep across the
latest developments from Sky Sports both on TV and online. Last August there were nearly 7 million unique
visits across Sky Sports digital platforms.
Twitter too has become a key way to keep
up to date on the latest development. Clubs use twitter to unveil new signings; journalists use it to spread
transfer rumours and at Sky Sports, we keep all of our followers in the know with all the breaking news. In
the August 2013 transfer window, @SkySportsNews received 194,000 mentions on Twitter with #SkyDeadlineDay
being used 146,000 times.
It is sure to be an exhilarating day full of twists and
turns. Keep up to date with your club’s coming and goings on Friday live on Sky Sports HD or via SkyGo, the
Sky Sports app or on skysports.com.
