Worldwide fashion icon and supermodel Naomi Campbell to star in Sky Living’s new series “The Face"
London: March 19th 2013
Sky Living today announces “The Face”, an exclusive, glossy new entertainment series in which three global supermodels compete against each other in the ultimate competition to find The Face - the model who has what it takes to become the face of a world-renowned brand.
Iconic supermodel and businesswoman, Naomi Campbell will be one of three supermodel mentors. Naomi is the latest star talent to front a show on Sky Living and will also be an executive producer on “The Face”. The remaining two supermodels will be revealed at a later date.
Naomi and two other supermodels will each choose four girls to mentor and guide as members of their exclusive teams. Over eight weeks, the three teams will have to compete in a series of real life fashion industry challenges for some of Britain’s best known brands, including photo shoots, runway shows and commercials.
The rival supermodel mentors will be fighting to keep all their girls in the competition but each week one must leave. The decision about who goes lies in the hands of the supermodel that mentors the winning team. In the end, only one supermodel mentor will triumph to see one of their handpicked girls become “The Face” – an ambassador who will represent a major brand in print, on-air and in person at national events.
Executive Producer Naomi Campbell said, "I am looking for the ultimate model. It doesn't matter where you are from or who you are, The Face is about one thing. I'm looking for contestants who have the whole package - a beautiful face, great body, unique look, confidence, drive and passion, the ability to change and transform a willingness to follow direction, and, above all, a strong work ethic. Bringing the show over from the US is a real honour and it’s great to be working with Princess Productions and Shine TV-- UK talent is world class, so I'm really looking forward to uncovering our next rising star. The show is a real insight into the modelling world, it's authentic and fast paced”.
One of the five original 80s ‘supermodels’, Campbell was born in London and got her big break when she was 15 years old. She has graced the covers of more than 500 magazines during her career, and was the first black model to be on the cover of Time and French Vogue.
Naomi has worked on various campaigns for the likes of Burberry, Chanel, Prada, Versace, Azzedine Alaia, Dolce and Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and Valentino. Naomi has also showcased the collections of top designers, including Chanel, Christian Dior, Versace, Vivienne Westwood, Rifat Osbek, Jasper Conran and John Galliano.
Additionally, Campbell has appeared in countless TV shows, music videos and films including: “The Cosby Show,” “Ugly Betty”, “Absolutely Fabulous”, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” Madonna’s “Erotica," Bob Marley's "Is This Love" and Michael Jackson's "In The Closet" to name a few.
She is responsible for an incredible amount of fundraising and campaigning in South Africa and across the world. Having started her involvement with charity work in 1993 with Nelson Mandela, in 1997 he named her “Honorary Granddaughter” for endless activism.
In 2005, she presented her first Fashion For Relief charity fashion show to raise vital funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, which has since had shows in London, Cannes, New York, Moscow and Mumbai to raise money for various charities, with other shows planned around the world including China.
The commission of this new and ambitious production further demonstrates Sky Living’s commitment to develop and broaden its original UK content offering.
‘The Face’ recently launched on the Oxygen network in the US, having been produced by Shine America. From the makers of Sky1’s hit show 'Got To Dance' “The Face”, is a co-production with Princess Productions and Shine TV. Production commences this Spring, with TX to be confirmed in due course.
Auditions are being held around the country now. Female models 18 years or older, with or without previous experience who want to apply should email: thefacecasting@princesstv.com, or call 020 7985 1803 / 0757 223 8368.
